Luci Phurr’s Imps “Calls & Punishment” #1

Fun fact #TK421:  If you take the last panel of every strip, lay them side-by-side, left-to-right, last-to-first, they would make a completely different, self-contained story.

Disclaimer:  The whole last panel thing is not true.  But c’mon, you gotta admit, if it were that would be wicked awesome!  Like LOST or something.

All I can say is thank the Gods for cordless phones.

By the way have you seen mine?

And like all truly evil things, when you first get one of those extra long telephone cords you THINK it’s actually the best thing ever.

It takes just until you toss… or lose the old cord, for it to reveal its true nature.

Only later, after several strangled pets; twenty-three disconnected calls, due to one of the kids flying past, snagging in the cord and yanking it out of your hand and across the room; three window repairs – due to the flying, kid-related handset; and one month in traction, followed by three more in plaster and six more in physical therapy, because you tripped yourself having just hung-up a call, do you fully realize the real horror you invited into your home.

They aren’t that bad. You just have to extra careful when you have one of them.My grand-mother had one connected with his old phone (model 500 telephone). The weight alone make him something dangerous so we use to keep an eye on the beast.

At least that was still plastic. We could go back to the old bakelite phones. Drop in it on your foot and you were looking at a trip to the E.R. and x-rays were in your future.

curse you, Misfortune! that damned telephone cable is the very cause of so many of my telephone-related–! mis…fortunes…ooooh…i suppose…that would make sense…shit…

Misfortune. It’s not just a clever name.

  7. Warriorking4ver

Sounds like Misfortune is the most successful of the three imps?

Well, it makes sense, Pain and Tears are results while Misfortune is often the cause. As a source of “bad things” Misfortune would be the most successful.

Also, sneaky with the “last panel” bit: I went back and read just the last panels. (Easy, since I just started reading last night.) They do make a story by themselves. A very incoherent story – characters appear and disappear without explanation, only rarely does one event follow logically from the previous one – that does sound rather like LOST.

Next up: The cable… company! That is where Misfortune truly shines!
