History Ain’t What It Was #18

I had seen several articles about the San Francisco Quake the Imps and Luci visit in this strip, suggesting that far from being as completely devastating as it might initially have seemed, the damage was relative minor.  Now by that I mean the entire city wasn’t leveled, but lots of buildings had suffered some degree of damage that could have been fixed… at some significant cost.  And that cost would be out of pocket, since insurance claims did not cover such random “Acts of God” …like an earthquake on the San Andreas Fault (and come on, who could have foreseen that happening there?).  However, many people had fire insurance.  It doesn’t take a genius to work out how people decided to recoup their losses.

Of course, that’s the Unofficial Official version of what really happened.  With our newly revealed insights into the goings-on of certain minions of Hell, we now know different.

Remember to let us know if you plan to hit the San Diego Comic Con.  Maybe some of you guys can get together and demand plushies from Courtney… or buy me beer… or buy each other beer… or buy plushie versions of Courtney… or just say, “Hi!” …whatever works for you.

And while we’re remembering thing, don’t forget the Weekenders and Behind the Imps on the Facebook LPI page (follow the link on the right side of the page).  We also have a new bonus comic under the vote-button-doodad-thingy.

And while we are working on memory-related things, remember to recycle, wash behind your ears, don’t swim for two hours after eating, The Maine …and The Alamo.

Of course Pain would try that.

  2. dale_mettam

I forgot to say above. Monday we jump to a new disaster and it was pretty unanimously voted the favorite of everyone on the team. Hopefully you all like it as well.

  3. keylaleigh

…I don’t know what to say.

  4. keylaleigh

And honestly, Dale, you sound like my brother playing Mario Kart. He HATES items.

  5. Melkior

Mr Squeaky the hamster says, “I can see that sequence of four panels is becoming a running gag!!!”
Personally, I agree with Mr Squeaky completely (and this is scarcely odd because, he’s a figment of my imagination).
(I propose Dale give a prize to the first person who can name where the phrase in the brackets is slightly paraphrased from). 😉

@Melkior & Mr Squeaky – The hidden nods to things are all over the strips and comments. Everyone should feel free to call them as they see them. Some are obvious. Some more subtle. Go for it guys… and gals… and pet rodents.

  7. Kiriel

…You guys.. are so so so evil…

  8. Ragedoll

First of all I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bonus comic, it is definitely full of win! – Let me just say though Items are PART of the game Dale, haha, Skill can get you there but what fun would it be if you couldn’t shoot someone sky high with shells and whatnot :)

The strip is cute too, :p

@Melkior @keyla @Kiriel @Rage I agree completely with all of you. And on the subject of the board game from a few (read: many) strips ago, I saw an article yesterday online regarding a possible remake of Clue…of course my mind went right to the board game that is being created by some of us here. (Presumably that is still in the process of being worked on?) http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/02/24/gore-verbinski-to-direct-clue/

    …a Clue movie…

I wonder what Poker’yamom Clueopoly would look like as a movie?

  11. Wisdn

It would probably be an epic movie which could easily stand toe-to-toe with Ben-Hur. Or at least be pretty close.

  12. Dangerdoll

Ahhh, the blue shell FTW…literally 😉

  13. keylaleigh

I actually kind of saw it being an art film along the same lines as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, myself.

  14. dale_mettam

I sense another youtube video coming soon.

I am filled with equal measures of dread and giddy anticipation. 😀

  15. keylaleigh

Who knows? I’d have to get a few friends together, a script and a better camera… and who knows what will come out?

And I REALLY gotta send you guys the Poke’yamom cards I finished up.

  16. Topazert

Speaking of tradeing cards. Imagine Imp cards now.
    Imp Attacks
Pain:Swallow,Gas Attack, Acid spray, claw/Mutilate, and cause painful “accident”
Tears:Water gun(via tear ducts), cause sarrow, and tearful stare
Alisdair:Cause “accident”, claw, and bad luck
Give me some feed back people!

  17. ThaAlphaCroc

lol how interesting luci’s faces are =)

  18. dale_mettam

PSSST! A new Weekenders is up on the Luci Phurr’s Imps Facebook page.

  19. Melkior

I’m not surprised and only slightly disappointed that nobody seems to have figured out the phrase “..and this is scarcly odd, because…” is from Lewis Carrol’s “Alice Through the Looking-Glass”, specifically from the rhyme, “The Walrus and the Carpenter” where it’s used several times, most notably in the final stanza which goes:
    “Oh oysters,” said the Carpenter
    “You’ve had a pleasant run
Shall we be trotting home again?”
    But answer came there none
And this was scarcely odd, because
    They’d eaten every one.

Mr Squeaky is wrinkling his nose, by which he means to say he doesn’t like oysters and prefers his hamster food.

Maybe everyone assumed they would get the same prize I give for the hidden references I put in the strips. A warm and fuzzy sense of satisfaction. In light of that they just smiled, nodded that they did indeed get it, and moved on.

    BTW… new BTI posted – same Imp-time, same Imp-channel.

  21. Wisdn

Or maybe an epic art film. What say you? If you haven’t already started working on the script @keyla, I might be able to help you out with that. I have some ideas, myself.
