Deus Ex-Pletive #5

FUN FACT #13.1 – It’s been a while since we had any Fun Facts.

FUN FACT #13.2 – Luci Phurr’s Imps was never a Zuda entry.  The format is all wrong, and when we started we had more than the eight standard submission pages ready to roll… y’ know… in case you wondered.

FUN FACT #13.3 – I had nothing I could think of that was funny or insightful for this strip, so I went back to the FUN FACTS.  It’s a cop-out… I know.

Actually, I would argue that the stars for characters was a copout on the art. What’s the deal, is the artist on vacation?

  2. NeoDarklight

Fun Fact: Dorks are whale penises. And the yellow star dude seems to be a pretty big one, IMHO.

it’s actually spelled Affable, and if I didn’t know what the word meant I might have been offended by it

  4. dale_mettam

    Hey there toraush… and welcome.

    It is actually effable:
    effable – adj
Archaic, capable of being expressed in words

    As opposed to ineffable:
    in·ef·fa·ble – adj.
    1. Incapable of being expressed; indescribable or unutterable. See Synonyms at unspeakable.
    2. Not to be uttered; taboo: the ineffable name of God.

I wouldn’t think BYOB would have a problem with Tear’s Sexual Deviancy snowman.

Also – much appreciate for knowing and using a word like effable [even if my spell checker thinks it’s silly].

  6. Kiriel

I love the stars.. even if I want to destroy them with my sulfurous hellfire and many melancholy days DC
Also.. *latches onto comichero like a barnacle and doesn’t let go, just snuggling in adoringly* mineminemine~

  7. DktrAgonizer

He takes it too “lightly”, hmm? I see what you did there.

How are the stars a cop out? I loved how bright they appear. Kudos to the colorist’s effects. I am not the brightest bulb in the lighthouse, but i love to learn new words. This strip continues keep me on my toes for that as well as certain terms or situations I don’t know about. Not to mention it is quite humorous!
    LPI FTW!
    :) :) :)

Actually, it would seem to me much harder to show characterization and expression in a simple 5-point star than in a fully-detailed human. For the number of strips posted so far, the production quality in this strip seems to be very high compared to some of the other web comics I’ve seen, even better than some in the newspaper. Would seem to me that the art used has to serve the story; so some days are going to have more ‘elaborate’ scenes than other.

Even if I’m not the most vocal supporter, I really love this strip. It always gives me a smile and often gives me a laugh. I occasionally learn something new, which is always a bonus. And it’s not just another ‘laugh a day’ comic; there’s a story here that I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Please keep up the great work!

For the record – while the stars are simple – they arn’t just quick doodles. It took me almost an hour to do my one little mock-star for my avatar. Granted, now that I’ve done one, it would be quicker to do more – but given that each image in each panel is individually drawn – instead of copy/pasted with a little edits – it’s quite impressive. And the spiky star two panels back is really awesome! I can’t imaging I’d be able to do that one in less than three hours.

Not that it’s a function of time or difficulty – I’m loving the stars – they’re terribly cute and expressive. And it fills what is needed for the story – I really enjoy angels as stars, personally. And even if I’m a more neutral aligned participant here [sorry – I havn’t joined team-d {or team-g}] I think that Courtney and Dale have done an amazing job and deserve kudos for their hard work and diligence in getting us these wonderful comic strips!

SOMEBODY,(i wont say who) replaced my sofa with a SOAP BOX!!! >< …. oops uhh moving on) anywho a good idea is to start with a manga chibi character (cuz there a middle ground between the two) then gradualy mutate it into a star…(that's what i did any way…) :) anyway hope it helps…

COME ON, i want my sofa back…. :(

  12. Revok

wait, what, half of my post dissapeared…?

  13. Revok

    the good half…

  14. dale_mettam

@Revok – I did wonder about that soap-box. Shame to get up there and the lose your voice. 😀

  15. jjmblue7

    Jesus–Now *that* dude was effable.

  16. Revok

actualy it was more like 3/4 of the post, oh well… what ya gonna do?
    maybe its a good thing… :)

  17. dale_mettam

@jjmblue7 – he was probably affable to.

  18. jjmblue7

Just checked the WW comic. Much love for it!

  19. comichero

Lol pooor Rev sorry to hear about your sofa kinda sucks *pets kiriel* well you know im not just yours i kinda belong to every one here but i do love the affection its cute to see imps cuddling =P and lyda im not sure if there is a middle of the road here but if your waiting to see whom has better benifits id say its team-D as i was told once you go to heaven for the scenery and to hell for the company

  20. LydaLynn

Lol – no I’m not waiting to check out the benefits – I just love my Momma and wouldn’t want to be responsible for her keeling over dead or going to jail for homicide if I signed up with team-d. Besides – team-g gets to be cute stars – I know it’s wrong – but . . . I like cute!

  21. Wisdn

@comichero I second that, @Revok may your sofa be swiftly brought back to where it rightfully belongs. I’m also for Team D (though not explicitly against Team G), and I agree that the star artwork is very good, considering the difficulty and that each panel is hand drawn. More kudos from me to the whole LPI Team. Great bonus comic as well, although I agree with @LydaLynn on the BYOB Point. Also, I am suggesting (@dale and @Courtney) that a Forcas (the real one, not the outsourced version) plushie be thought up and drawn up. Maybe the rest of Mr. D’s (mentioned way way back) A-Team, but Forcas (again, the real one) would just be awesome.
